An internal emergency response plan will be worked out for the Belarusian nuclear power plant in 2017, BelTA learned from the review of the nuclear and radiation safety in the Republic of Belarus in 2015.
According to the review, the state emergency prevention system is being enhanced taking into account the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. A plan has been adopted in Belarus to improve the national nuclear and radiation accident response system. Among other things the document provides for working out an external emergency response plan, an internal emergency response plan for the Belarusian nuclear power plant, and a program to train nuclear energy installation personnel together with external response agencies for the sake of testing internal emergency response plans. Other measures will be taken as well. The internal emergency response plan for the Belarusian nuclear power plant will be developed taking into account results of emergencies, which are not covered by the nuclear power plant's design and bring about the worst consequences for the population and the personnel. The internal emergency response plan will take into account development stages of a probable accident.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant is a project to build an AES-2006 type nuclear power plant 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The BelNPP will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW). In line with the general contract for building the nuclear power plant the first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2018, with the second one to go online in 2020.
