According to Yan Bedushevsky, the national healthcare system offers a great number of high-quality medical services in various fields. New technologies and treatment protocols are being introduced, healthcare facilities are being equipped with top-notch equipment.
“Over the past few years, the number of foreign nationals receiving medical care at Belarus' leading clinics has been growing. Medical tourism is on the up and up. In 2024, more than 160,000 foreigners from 159 countries visited the country. Most of them came from Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Moldova, Armenia, Georgia, Syria, Germany, the USA, Israel, Italy. The CIS countries account for more than 60% of foreign patients,” Yan Bedushevsky informed.
In 2024, the export of medical services expanded by over 10%. Foreigners come to Belarus because of reasonable prices and high quality of healthcare services. Often, patients come specifically to certain world-class specialists.
“It is also important for them that they don't have to wait to get medical services. A trip to Belarus does not cost that much, while patients have the opportunity to undergo an examination and start treatment right away,” said the project chief.
The most popular fields of medical tourism are transplantology, cancer treatment, cardiac surgery, plastic surgery, obstetrics, neurosurgery, traumatology, diagnostic examinations, preventive treatment, rehabilitation, ophthalmology, as well as recuperation in health resorts.
Yan Bedushevsky recalled that there are 16 highly-specialized national research and treatment centers in the country, 15 of which are located in Minsk and Minsk Oblast. To promote medical services and help arrange such trips for foreigners, a state-run information service, Clinics of Belarus, was created. The website is to be upgraded in the first quarter.
