On the eve of International Customs Day, the banner of Vitebsk Customs was consecrated in the Assumption Cathedral by Bishop Eusebius of Drutsk, Vicar of the Vitebsk Diocese.
His Eminence conducted a divine prayer service and presented the banner to Sergey Linkevich, Head of Vitebsk Customs, as a symbol of blessing and the revival of glorious traditions.
Clergy, leadership, and customs officers participated in the solemn event.
"The transfer of the spiritual banner symbolizes the spiritual blessing and support of the Church for the activities of customs officers, reminding them of the importance of the spiritual and moral component in serving for the benefit of their native country," said His Eminence Eusebius in his address.
"The presentation of the banner is happening for the first time in our history, and it is not just a ceremony, but a symbol of our spiritual support and blessing. May this image protect customs officers in their difficult service, guide them in faithful service to the homeland, in fulfilling their sacred duty to protect the Fatherland, strengthen their spirit, and help them in performing the most complex tasks," noted Sergey Linkevich.
The banner of Vitebsk Customs depicts the image of Saint Matthew, one of the 12 apostles of Jesus Christ and an evangelist. This icon is the main patron and protector of customs officers.
