This year, the Internal Affairs Department of the Postavy District Executive Committee continues to carry out preventive measures to prevent bicycle thefts in the city of Postavy and Postavy District. In accordance with the plan of main activities, preventive talks are held with citizens, postal employees, shop workers, and social workers, during which methods of protection against criminal encroachments, including methods of protection against bicycle thefts, are communicated. The requirements of the District Department of Internal Affairs regarding the need to inform the police about every fact of illegal actions against citizens are also explained.

In 2019, 14 bicycle thefts were registered (2018 - 12).

In the Postavy District in 2019, compared to 2018, the total number of bicycle thefts increased from 12 to 14 (or +2). Of these, the perpetrators were identified in 7 cases (2018 - in 7). The clearance rate for this type of crime was 50% (2018 - 58.3% or -8%).

By territorial division, 7 bicycle thefts were committed in Postavy and 7 thefts were committed in rural areas. In Postavy - 7: Zelenaya Street - 2 thefts committed from entrances of multi-apartment residential buildings (1 solved), Kosmonavtov Street - 1 bicycle theft from under a fence (unsolved), Krupskaya Street - 2 thefts by free access from a garage (1 solved), Stankevich Street - 1 theft from a house yard (unsolved), Yubileynaya Street - 1 theft committed from the entrance of a multi-apartment residential building (unsolved). In rural areas, 7 bicycle thefts were committed: Kuropolsky rural council, Vasilyevshchina village - 1 bicycle theft committed from the roadside of a gravel road near Vasilyevshchina village (suspect identified), Kamaysky rural council, Verenki village - 1 bicycle theft committed from the yard of a private house (suspect identified), Voropaevsky rural council, Voropaevo urban-type settlement - 1 bicycle theft committed from under the fence of a private house (suspect identified), Yunkovsky rural council, Gruzdovo village - 1 bicycle theft committed from the yard of a private house (unsolved), Dunilovichsky rural council, Dunilovichi village - 1 bicycle theft from under a shop (suspect identified), Kuropolsky rural council, Kuropolye village - 1 bicycle theft from a private house shed (suspect identified), Khotily village - 1 bicycle theft from a bicycle parking lot under a shop (unsolved). As can be seen from the territorial division of committed crimes, no system is traceable; all crimes are scattered by location and committed in remote settlements.

By method of commission, only 8 incidents were committed by free access: Postavy, Yubileynaya Street (entrance), Postavy, Krupskaya Street (garage), Postavy, Krupskaya Street (garage), Postavy, Zelenaya Street (entrance), Voropaevo urban-type settlement (from house fence), Vasilyevshchina village (roadside), Khotily village (parking near shop), Dunilovichi village (from under shop). Verenki village (private house yard). 6 incidents by other methods.

Two thefts were committed in January, 3 thefts in April, 3 in May, 1 in June, 4 in July, 1 in October 2019. As can be seen from the analysis, 78% of bicycle thefts were committed in the spring-summer period.

By time of commission, 70% of all bicycle thefts were committed during the daytime: 10 thefts were committed from 06:00 to 18:00, 4 thefts were committed at night from 23:00 to 06:00.

We would like to recommend several simple but effective measures to bicycle owners to protect their property:

- do not leave your bicycle unattended on the stairwell, in basements, near entrances or shops

- mark the main parts of the bicycle, record their numbers; this will help identify the bicycle in case of theft

- purchase a locking device to prevent bicycle theft and use it when leaving the bicycle for a short time.

Adherence to these minimal rules will help prevent criminal encroachment against you and preserve your property.
