In the Postavy district, the State Automobile Inspectorate is conducting preventive measures to prevent road accidents.

From September 22 to 24, 2021, preventive measures are being carried out in Postavy and Postavy District to prevent road accidents involving vulnerable road users.

On September 23, the State Automobile Inspectorate of Vitebsk Region will hold a set of preventive measures "Light Up" your bicycle!" The main goal of the campaign will be to prevent road accidents involving cyclists.

Since the beginning of 2021, 24 accidents have been registered on the roads of Vitebsk Region, in which 4 cyclists died, 20 people were injured, two of whom were intoxicated. State Automobile Inspectorate officers will carry out enhanced control over compliance with traffic rules. However, increased attention will be paid specifically to cyclists.

On September 24, a Single Road Safety Day "Take care of safety! Be visible on the road!" will be held in Vitebsk Region. The purpose of the event: to promote the use of retroreflective elements and high-visibility vests by pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers of horse-drawn vehicles.

According to statistics, the number of road accidents involving pedestrians increases precisely in autumn and winter. This is primarily due to the shortening of daylight hours and deteriorating weather conditions. People dress in dark-colored clothes and become practically invisible to drivers at dusk, in fog, in rain, and at night.

A pedestrian and a cyclist moving in the dark become visible to a motorist at best at a distance of 25-30 meters.

Retroreflective elements allow road users to "glow" in low beam headlights at a distance of 130-140 meters, and when driving with high beam, the distance increases to 400 meters.

It is important to properly attach the reflectors — they should be clearly visible to drivers, and not hidden behind a bag or folds of clothing. The optimal option is to use armbands and bracelets attached to the pedestrian's arms and legs on the side of the roadway.

We remind you that when moving on the road in the dark or (and) with insufficient visibility, a bicycle and a horse-drawn vehicle must have a white light switched on at the front, and a red light switched on at the rear. In addition, cyclists and drivers of horse-drawn carts are recommended to wear high-visibility vests. In turn, drivers should pay increased attention when passing pedestrian crossings and driving on roads near settlements.

Also, officers of the State Automobile Inspectorate are conducting raid events "Attention! Self-propelled machines and tractors!"

Special attention is paid to the serviceability of external lighting devices, equipment with orange flashing beacons, retroreflective elements of agricultural machinery, as well as attachments, and the completeness of the state technical inspection of agricultural machinery.
