A set of measures to combat pedophilia has started in Postavy

From April 29 to May 24, 2024, as part of additional measures to combat crimes against sexual freedom and inviolability of minors, a special program "Childhood without Violence" is being conducted in the Postavy district.

This initiative aims to combat crimes against the sexual inviolability or sexual freedom of minors, as well as the circulation of child pornography. The main goal of the initiative is to encourage the public to immediately report sexual acts against children to the police. This will help law enforcement officers to take timely response measures.

The set of measures involves joint work with all relevant prevention entities. In particular, with education and healthcare workers, as well as public associations. Police officers will inform specialists about the mechanism for early detection of pedophilia and other unlawful behavior.

Unfortunately, negative trends in the commission of crimes against the sexual freedom and inviolability of minors persist. The high latency of crimes related to sexual violence against children allows perpetrators to remain out of sight of law enforcement for a long time, and their victims to be subjected to further violence. This prevention is carried out precisely for this purpose, primarily to identify and prevent such crimes.

In the Postavy district, 5 crimes against the sexual freedom and inviolability of minors were detected in the past period of 2023.

In the past period of 2024, 5 crimes were detected: 1 crime under Part 3 of Article 167 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (violent acts of a sexual nature), 1 crime under Part 3 of Article 166 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (rape of a minor) and 3 crimes under Part 1 of Article 169 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (lewd acts).

A fact of rape of a minor has been established. The minor and her friends were invited to visit by adults to drink alcoholic beverages, to which the minors agreed. Then, during the consumption of alcoholic beverages, the owner of the apartment went with one minor into a room, where he committed rape against her, taking advantage of the helpless state of the minor, who had recently turned 14 years old. A criminal case was initiated under Part 3 of Article 166 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. The responsibility for which provides for imprisonment for a term of 8 to 15 years.

A fact of lewd acts committed by the owner of the apartment against a girl under the age of sixteen has also been established. A criminal case was initiated under Part 1 of Article 169 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. The responsibility for which provides for up to 3 years of imprisonment.

A fact of violent acts of a sexual nature committed by a 38-year-old resident of Postavy against a fourteen-year-old student of one of the schools in the Postavy district has been established. A criminal case was initiated under Part 3 of Article 167 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. The responsibility for which provides for imprisonment for a term of 8 to 15 years.

On the Internet, a fact of lewd acts committed by a 38-year-old resident of Postavy who engaged in correspondence of a sexual nature with a person under the age of sixteen has been established.

A similar fact has also been established regarding a 30-year-old resident of Postavy.
