Thin ice – go around!
Many people have heard this phrase before, but they don't even suspect that trouble could happen to them personally.
Thus, on December 16, 2021, at 18:06, the Postavy District Department of Emergency Situations received a report that a person had fallen through the ice on Lake Yasukovskoye near the village of Yasyuki, Postavy District.
Upon arrival at the scene of the call at the Postavy District Department of Emergency Situations (3 km), no person was observed on the water surface. During the investigation of the circumstances, it was established that a man fell through the ice while fishing at a distance of 130 m from the shore. The drowned person's identity is being established.
Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations conducted an inspection of the scene. The drowned person was not found. The ice thickness on the reservoir was 3 cm. The depth was up to 12 m.
On December 17, 2021, at 11:13, employees of the OSVOD rescue station in Postavy found the body of the drowned man at a depth of 3 meters, 70 meters from the shoreline.
Dear citizens, do not go out on ice less than 7 centimeters thick if you are alone, and 10 centimeters if there are several people on the ice! Inform your loved ones and neighbors where you are going and when you plan to return. Also, check out a few tips from the Ministry of Emergency Situations on what to do if you do fall through the ice:
Do not panic;
Call for help;
Try not to go under water with your head;
Turn in the direction you came from;
Spread your arms and crawl onto the ice with your chest;
Throw a leg onto the ice and try to roll away from the ice hole;
Once out of the water, do not rush to stand up (so as not to fall through again), crawl to the shore along your tracks;
Do not allow children to go out on the ice!
The Ministry of Emergency Situations recommends: wear bright life jackets so that you can be noticed and rescued!
