Putin arrives in Minsk

Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Minsk on a working visit. The Russia air force one touched down at the National Airport Minsk, BelTA has learned.

The Russian president was welcomed by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko.

The Palace of Independence in Minsk will become the venue of the Belarusian-Russian talks on 19 December.

The program of the talks is packed. They are expected to involve members of governments, heads of ministries and departments. The parties are set to discuss in detail the most pressing issues of the Belarusian-Russian integration.

Then the presidents are expected to continue the talks with a face-to-face meeting, make statements and answer journalists' questions.

In general, the heads of state are scheduled to discuss the status of the Union State programs, trade and economic cooperation, joint cooperation projects with an emphasis on import substitution. Cooperation in the energy sector will be an important topic on the negotiating agenda. The presidents will also give priority attention to security issues, exchange views on the situation in the region and the world, and discuss joint measures to respond to emerging challenges.
