A dismissive attitude towards autonomous fire detectors can still sometimes be heard from our citizens. Although statistics record more and more cases where AFDs timely warn of danger and thus save from trouble. Let's look at the problem of installing AFDs from another perspective. Suppose you are confident in your household members, always turn off electrical appliances when leaving home, do not leave children unattended, and do not smoke in bed while intoxicated, etc. But where is the guarantee that your neighbors, tenants, or those who live next to you act the same way? After all, safety consists of many components, and in some cases, it depends on other people, not to mention the circumstances and "accidents" of our lives.

So, if you have installed an autonomous fire detector at home, in order for it to serve faithfully for a long time, it needs to be properly maintained.

It is very important to choose the correct installation location for the detector. The optimal point is in the central part of the ceiling with a slight offset towards the window or door, where air currents move. When triggered, the detector emits a loud signal to wake up a deeply sleeping person and drown out any sound of operating household appliances (for example, a vacuum cleaner or washing machine). Many people are interested in how to stop the sound if the detector was triggered not by a fire. To do this, you need to ventilate the room or vacuum the AFD for a few seconds without removing it from the ceiling.

What causes false alarms? Often this happens because vapors of fats and other substances, entering the openings of the smoke chamber, settle on the walls of the plastic casing and, drying, turn into a dense coating. Another reason for alarms is the ingress of smoke from the stove into the chamber, from the yard through an open door, or as a result of active smoking. But this indicates that your detector is working perfectly, and you should only eliminate the source of smoke. And the last reason, which, however, is extremely rare, is a detector malfunction.

Replacing the battery is done once a year and is not difficult. The detector is removed from the ceiling, the used element is taken out, and a new one is inserted. At the same time, the smoke chamber must be cleaned of dust with a vacuum cleaner. If the indicator on the detector casing starts to flash without emitting a sound signal, it means the AFD is ready to perform its functions.
