The event aims to draw pedestrians' attention to the need for strict adherence to road safety rules, the mandatory use of retroreflective elements and high-visibility vests in the dark, and in conditions of insufficient visibility.

Patrol routes of the State Automobile Inspectorate's traffic police units will be revised and brought closer to sections of roads and streets in populated areas most prone to pedestrian collisions. Raids are planned with the involvement of all public security police officers to work during peak hours and in the dark on accident-prone areas and unregulated pedestrian crossings.

The road police will organize extensive informational and explanatory work among the population, in labor collectives, and educational institutions on the main risks and threats to safety, taking into account seasonal factors, the need to use retroreflective elements in the dark, precautions at pedestrian crossings, and responsibility for committed offenses.

In addition, all accident-prone areas will be inspected for their lighting and the availability of necessary technical means of traffic organization. The focus of the officers will be not only on violating pedestrians but also on drivers who do not comply with the rules for passing pedestrian crossings.

In January-August 2019, the number of road accidents involving pedestrians increased in the republic (by 2.1%, from 654 to 668). The number of injured increased by 5% (from 559 to 587), and the number of fatalities slightly decreased (by 1.8%, from 111 to 109). Fatal injuries were sustained by 78% of pedestrians killed in road accidents in the dark. In September of this year, 53 pedestrians were injured and 14 died in 64 road accidents.
