From March 6 to 15, the State Automobile Inspectorate is holding the republican preventive campaign "Protect Children!"
During the campaign, extensive informational and explanatory work was organized among the population, in work collectives, and in the media, focusing on the main risks and threats to children's safety on the road, and the need for strict adherence to rules for the safe transportation of minors.
In all educational institutions, meetings, lectures, lessons, and discussions will be held with children, during which traffic police inspectors will remind them of safe behavior rules on the road and in transport, in yards, pay special attention to the rules for crossing the roadway at uncontrolled pedestrian crossings, explain the peculiarities of "road traps," and remind them about choosing safe places for rollerblading, skateboarding, cycling, etc.
Traffic police officers will strengthen control over drivers' adherence to speed limits, rules for crossing pedestrian crossings, and safe transportation of children, and will focus on preventing violations of traffic rules by minors, as well as by adults accompanying children.
Streets, driveways, roads, and traffic management devices near educational institutions will be inspected for deficiencies with the aim of their immediate elimination.
In 2018, the number of road accidents involving children in the republic increased (from 303 to 398), as did the number of minors killed (from 21 to 22) and injured (from 303 to 419) in them.
In January-February 2019, 2 children (a passenger and a pedestrian) died on the country's roads, and 44 were injured.
70% of road accidents involving children are caused by adults.
