From January 25 to February 6, the State Automobile Inspectorate is conducting a set of preventive measures aimed at preventing road accidents involving and caused by vulnerable road users.
Since the beginning of this year alone, 5 road traffic accidents involving pedestrians have been registered in the Vitebsk region. As a result, 1 person died and 4 were injured with varying degrees of severity.
The main cause of fatalities is collisions with pedestrians, including those not marked with retroreflective elements in the dark. A particular risk group consists of intoxicated pedestrians, often lying within the roadway. Factors contributing to road traffic accidents include pedestrians ignoring traffic rules, as well as the absence of retroreflective elements on pedestrians' clothing in the dark.
The State Automobile Inspectorate urges drivers to be extremely careful and cautious behind the wheel, not to be distracted, and to constantly monitor the road situation, especially in the dark. In populated areas, at uncontrolled pedestrian crossings and when approaching them, drive at the minimum speed to react in time and prevent an accident in case of danger.
Pedestrians are urged to exercise caution and attentiveness in road traffic. When driving in the dark, use retroreflective patches and inserts on your outerwear! A special appeal to parents! Take care of your children's safety! It is mandatory to attach a retroreflective badge to their backpack or jacket! And do not forget to remind young road users about the basic rules of safe behavior on the road!
The State Automobile Inspectorate appeals to citizens!
If you see an intoxicated pedestrian on or near the roadway, immediately report it by calling 102 to the Postavy District Department of Internal Affairs; your call may save a life.
