In January-December 2021, the number of road accidents involving pedestrians in the Vitebsk region was similar to the same period in 2020. At the same time, the number of fatalities decreased, while the number of injured increased. The number of killed and injured in road accidents involving cyclists significantly increased.

One of the main causes of road accidents is the human factor and insufficient skills of safe behavior of road users. In addition, seasonal factors (short daylight hours, fog, precipitation) also play a role.

In this regard, from January 17, 2022, to February 6, 2022, a set of preventive measures will be carried out aimed at preventing road accidents involving and caused by vulnerable categories of road users.

Unregulated pedestrian crossings will be monitored for violations of traffic rules by vehicle drivers who do not give way to pedestrians. Raids will also be conducted to identify traffic rule violations by vulnerable road users.
