From March 12 to 17, 2024, a set of additional measures is being carried out to prevent crimes against elderly citizens.
According to the results of the first two months of 2024, the number of citizens (60 years and older) who suffered from crimes in the Vitebsk region increased from 150 to 163, or by 8.7%. The largest number of elderly citizens became victims of property theft through computer information modification (9.2%), burglaries (28.2%), and fraud (40.5%). Of the 66 elderly citizens who fell victim to fraudsters, 41 suffered as a result of "phone scams."
To prevent crimes against elderly persons, and to implement measures aimed at enhancing the personal and property safety of this category of citizens, including single and living alone citizens, the Department of Internal Affairs of the Postavy District Executive Committee is conducting a set of additional measures to prevent crimes against elderly citizens in the Postavy district from March 12 to March 17, 2024.
During these events, elderly citizens will be visited for preventive talks, explanations of methods of protection against criminal encroachments, and the distribution of preventive leaflets. Police officers will place preventive information in organizations where it is provided, as well as in places with mass gatherings of citizens. Preventive presentations are being held in work collectives to inform about the current situation and the most common types of fraud and ways to protect against them.
