The Republican preventive campaign of the State Automobile Inspectorate to control the safe transportation of children, “Little Passenger – Big Responsibility!”, is being held in the country from August 18 and will last until August 24.

Every August, the number of road traffic accidents involving underage passengers increases. This is due to the mass transportation of children from recreation and health resorts. Failure to observe basic safety measures (non-use of child restraint systems, seat belts, transportation of children under 12 on motorcycles and mopeds) leads to the death and injury of minors.

During the campaign, inspectors will remind adults about the rules for safe transportation of children and responsibility for their violations. They will explain to drivers the rules for using seat belts and child restraint systems, and talk about the causes and consequences of injuries to young passengers.

Also during this period, traffic police officers will monitor drivers' compliance with the rules for safe transportation of children and speed limits.

The problem of death and injury of minors in road accidents remains very relevant. In the first 7 months of this year, 9 child passengers died and 76 were injured in road accidents across the country. At the same time, 40.0% of minors were transported in violation of established rules.

In addition, before the start of the academic year, the traffic police will check the condition of school buses and the safety of their routes, and will also monitor the elimination of identified deficiencies in the condition of the road network near educational institutions.
