Crime prevention is the key to public safety
In the first half of the current year, 144 murders were registered in the republic (-5.3% compared to the same period last year), and 361 intentional grievous bodily harm cases (-10.9%). At the same time, there was an increase in the number of "domestic" murders with attempted murders (=18.2%; from 33 to 39), including in the Brest (2 times; from 2 to 4), Vitebsk (2.5 times; from 2 to 5), Mogilev (+33.3%; from 6 to 8) regions and Minsk city (4 times; from 2 to 8). In the Grodno region, their number (3) remained at the level of the previous year. The overwhelming majority of these criminal acts were committed by citizens under the influence of alcohol.
In the Postavy district, in the first 6 months of 2021, there was an increase from 5 to 8, or +60%, in the number of registered crimes committed against the life and health of citizens (1 – Art. 139 (2020 – 1), 0 – Art. 147 (2020 – 1), 1 – Art. 149 (2020 -0), 1 – Art. 153 (2020 -1), 2 – Art. 186 (2020 – 2)).
In the first 6 months of 2021, in the district, there was an increase from 1 to 5, or +400%, in the number of registered crimes committed in the category of "domestic violence" (1 – Art. 139, 1 – Art. 149, 1 – Art. 153, 2 – Art. 186).
In the first 6 months of 2021, compared to the same period last year (hereinafter referred to as SPLY), in the Postavy district, there was an increase in the number of attempted murders under Article 139 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus from 0 to 1 case (or +1 case), cases of intentional less grievous bodily harm under Article 149 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus from 0 to 1 case (+1, SPLY – 0), intentional infliction of minor bodily harm under Article 153 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus from 0 to 1 case (+1, SPLY – 0), and threats of murder under Article 186 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus from 0 to 2 (+2, SPLY – 0).
The current situation indicates the need for additional preventive measures aimed at increasing the effectiveness of crime prevention activities, primarily domestic violence.
