Prevention of thefts from dachas
Almost every crime is committed due to the careless attitude of the victims themselves towards the safety of their property and the low level of security of their storage places. Thieves love easy prey. Even the simplest precautions will help you keep your property safe: equip your home, garage, and outbuildings with reliable locking devices and security alarm systems.
One type of "easy prey" for thieves is theft from summer cottages. In the Postavy district in 2020, compared to 2019, there was an increase in the total number of thefts committed from summer cottages from 4 to 5 (or +1). Of these, the persons who committed the thefts were identified in 2 cases (2019 – 0). The clear-up rate for crimes of this type was 40% (2019 – 0% or -40%).
Based on the analysis by territorial division, no crimes of this type were registered in gardening cooperatives. All thefts were committed from houses of citizens used by them as summer cottages. The largest number of crimes from summer cottages were committed in Voropaevsky rural council – 3 (Yasyuki village -1, Voropaevo urban settlement – 2) (2 solved), 1 crime was committed in the territory of Kamaisky rural council, Zharskie village (this crime was not solved), 1 crime was committed in the territory of Yunkovsky rural council, Solovyi village (this crime was not solved). As can be seen, the largest number of crimes of this type this year were committed in the territory of Voropaevsky rural council.
The objects of criminal encroachments were: household appliances, electrical equipment – 2 cases; non-ferrous metals -1; alcoholic products, food – 2.

By method of commission, all crimes were committed by breaking into summer cottages through doors, windows, transoms, taking advantage of the insufficient technical reinforcement of the households.
In 2020, there is an increase in this type of crime (+1), in general, the operational situation related to thefts from summer cottages in the district is stable and under the control of law enforcement agencies. No crimes of this type were allowed in gardening cooperatives. At the same time, the analysis indicates the detection of these crimes in the spring and summer periods, which indicates their commission in the winter and spring periods during the long absence of owners from their summer cottages. Most of the crimes of the type under consideration were committed by penetration, due to insufficient technical reinforcement of the households.
We would like to recommend several simple, yet effective measures to summer cottage owners to protect their property:
- always lock your summer cottage, even when you leave it for a short time;
- take valuable items out of the summer cottage for the autumn-winter period;
- neighbors, help each other, report suspicious persons appearing in the area of summer cottage communities and gardening cooperatives to the police by phone 102, providing descriptions of the perpetrators and the vehicles they are using.
