Preventive measures to prevent bicycle thefts
This year, the Department of Internal Affairs of the Postavy District Executive Committee continues to carry out preventive measures to prevent bicycle thefts in the city of Postavy and Postavy District. In accordance with the plan of main activities, preventive talks are held with citizens, postal employees, shop workers, and social workers, during which methods of protection against criminal encroachments, including methods of protection against bicycle thefts, are communicated. The requirements of the District Department of Internal Affairs regarding the need to inform the police about every fact of illegal actions against citizens are also explained.
In 2020, 7 bicycle thefts were registered (2019 - 12).
In the Postavy District in 2020, compared to 2019, there was a decrease in the total number of bicycle thefts from 12 to 7 (or -5). Of these, the perpetrators were identified in 4 cases. The clear-up rate for this type of crime was 57%.
By territorial division, 4 bicycle thefts were committed in Postavy and 3 thefts were committed in rural areas. In Postavy - 4: Zelenaya Street - 1 theft committed from the entrance of an apartment building (1 solved), Kosmonavtov Street - 1 bicycle theft from the entrance of an apartment building (unsolved), Krasnoarmeyskaya Street - 1 theft by free access from the yard of a house (1 solved), Lenin Square - 1 theft from under a shop (1 solved). In rural areas, 3 bicycle thefts were committed: Voropaevsky rural council, urban settlement Voropaevo - 1 bicycle theft committed from a house (suspect not identified), Stary Dvor village - 1 bicycle theft committed from the yard of a private house (suspect identified); Kuropolsky rural council, Vasiliny village - 1 bicycle theft committed from a house (suspect not identified). As can be seen from the territorial division of the crimes committed, no system is traceable; all crimes are scattered by place of commission and committed in remote settlements.
By method of commission, only 5 incidents were committed by free access and 2 incidents by breaking into a dwelling.
We would like to recommend several simple but effective measures to bicycle owners to protect their property:
-do not leave your bicycle unattended on the stairwell, in basements, near entrances or shops
- mark the main parts of your bicycle, write down their numbers, this will help identify the bicycle in case of theft
- purchase a locking device that prevents bicycle theft and use it when leaving the bicycle for a short time.
Compliance with these minimal rules will prevent criminal encroachment against you and preserve your property.
