Preventive measures to prevent and suppress traffic violations by cyclists and motorcyclists

From April 16 to 23, traffic police officers of the Vitebsk region will conduct preventive measures to prevent and suppress traffic violations by cyclists and motorcyclists.

Since the beginning of 2020, 1 road accident caused by a two-wheeled vehicle driver has been registered in our region. It occurred on March 6 in the village of Gurets, Chashniki district. A 31-year-old driver, while riding a MMVZ motorcycle, lost control on a road curve, causing him to hit a power line pole. It should be noted that the young man was intoxicated at the time of the accident and did not have the right to drive vehicles at all. The motorcyclist sustained bodily injuries and was hospitalized.

According to traffic rules, a bicycle is a vehicle driven by human muscular power. And the person driving it is a driver. Like all other road users, cyclists are obliged to observe the traffic rules established for them. Namely:

-up to 14 years old, you can only ride on sidewalks, shoulders, bicycle or pedestrian paths, without creating obstacles for the safe movement of pedestrians;

-from 14 years old, cyclists are allowed to move on the roadway in one row no further than 1 meter from its right edge. Exceptions are bypassing an obstacle and cases of turning left or making a U-turn;

-when driving on the road in the dark or in conditions of insufficient visibility, the bicycle must have: a white light headlight (lantern) in front, and a red light lantern in the back;

-when crossing the roadway at a pedestrian crossing, the cyclist must walk the bicycle next to them;

-outside intersections at an unregulated intersection of a bicycle path with a road, the cyclist must give way to vehicles moving on that road;

Dear cyclists! By riding a bicycle, you can not only strengthen your health, but also preserve it. To do this, you need to know and observe the Traffic Rules.
