Railway safety rules are rules for life!

From October 20 to October 31, 2025, a set of measures will be carried out in Postavy District aimed at preventing deaths of citizens at railway transport infrastructure facilities, including child injuries, in anticipation of the holiday period.

The main reason for deaths and injuries of people due to railway transport accidents is the victim's own violation of personal safety measures, their inattention, and disregard for rules of being in high-risk areas.

Often, tragedies are caused by the victim using headphones, attempting to crawl under a stationary train, or riding on the external structures of carriages.

To avoid tragedies, the following basic safety rules should be followed:

1. Crossing railway tracks is permitted only in designated and equipped places (railway pedestrian crossings, tunnels, bridges), after ensuring the absence of railway transport from all directions.

2. When crossing, listen carefully to announcements via loudspeakers, and pay attention to signals given by locomotives or railway workers.

3. It is not permitted to leave children unattended and unsupervised, including during boarding and alighting from carriages, or to hold accompanying children by the hand or in arms when transporting them without using a stroller.

3. It is not permitted to cross tracks when the red signal is on, warning of an approaching train, or if a train is approaching a crossing not equipped with a semaphore within sight.

4. The following is prohibited at pedestrian crossings:

moving on motor cultivators, motorcycles, mopeds, bicycles, scooters, roller skates, skis, other sports equipment, as well as using personal mobility devices (except wheelchairs);

using mobile phones, headphones (except hearing aids), tablets, video players, audio players, and the like.

5. To avoid the effect of the suction air current created by a passing train, it is necessary to move at least 2 meters away from the outermost rail.

It should be noted that, in accordance with Article 18.2, Part 4 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Belarus, walking on railway tracks or being on railway tracks in places not intended for crossing them, entails a fine of up to two basic units.
