Rules of safe behavior on and near water bodies

Among the main causes of water accidents are gross violations of safety rules. Quite often, swimming in unsuitable and unequipped bodies of water for these purposes ends tragically. There are many cases when some people, showing off their skills, swim far from the shore, dive and jump into the water in unfamiliar places. As a result of such actions, one can not only die but also end up confined to a wheelchair for life due to injuries sustained from impacts.

Thus, we see that water is indeed a dangerous element that forgives no one's mistakes. And if safety rules are not observed, both those who cannot swim and those who swim well can drown. Accidents can occur in both large and small bodies of water, and the main cause of their occurrence is human carelessness.

On May 18, in the afternoon, a report was received that a child had drowned in the village of Zamostochye, Dokshitsy district. According to preliminary data, the girl was in the yard of the house with her relatives. After some time, she disappeared from sight. Her parents rushed to search for her and found her in a body of water located behind the house. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. The girl, who was to turn two in June, could not be saved.

On April 25 at 19:47, the rescue service received a call on "101" reporting a drowning teenager on Ulyanova Street in Chechersk. Upon arrival at the scene, it was established that a person was on the surface of the water 10 meters from the shore. He was holding onto a bush with his hands. During the investigation, it was found that the teenager had dived from a bridge and could not swim to the shore. After being pulled from the water, rescuers handed the teenager over to ambulance workers, who, after examination, hospitalized him in a district healthcare facility.

Unfortunately, quite often during long school holidays, children are left to their own devices and, with the onset of warm days, are drawn to the water. At this time, adults need to be especially vigilant, because it doesn't take much time for trouble to strike, and it doesn't matter what age the child is – a preschooler or a teenager, they should only swim and play near bodies of water under adult supervision. Unfortunately, after a tragedy has occurred, nothing can be corrected or brought back, so it is better to take all safety measures in a timely manner, organize reasonable leisure for your children, and most importantly – never leave them unsupervised, even for a minute.

Safety Measures When Swimming

- refrain from swimming in unknown and unequipped bodies of water; if there is no equipped beach nearby, choose a safe place for swimming with a firm, sandy, uncluttered bottom and a gradual slope.

- avoid swimming alone;

- do not enter the water while intoxicated, as alcohol blocks the vasoconstrictor and vasodilator centers of the brain.

- never jump into the water in places not specially equipped: you can hit your head on the bottom, a stone, or another object, easily lose consciousness, injure yourself, and die.

- it is not allowed to dive from bridges, piers, jetties, or to swim close to passing boats, motorboats, and ships.

- it is forbidden to swim on inflatable mattresses, car inner tubes (especially if you cannot swim). They can be carried far from the shore by wind or current, or swamped by a wave, or lose air and buoyancy;

- do not engage in rough play in the water: diving under swimmers, grabbing their legs, "drowning" them, giving false distress signals, etc.;

- do not swim beyond the restrictive signs, as they delineate an area with a checked bottom, a certain depth, and guaranteed absence of whirlpools, etc. Do not swim far from the shore or cross a body of water for a dare.

- do not leave children unsupervised near the water.
