Fire safety in dormitories

According to statistics, in 2021, 29 fires were recorded in dormitories, 5 people died, in 2022 – 36, and 1 person became a victim of fire, in 2023 there were 25 fires
and 1 person died.

Do you know what are the most common causes of fires in dormitories? How to act correctly in case of fire? How to safely evacuate from a burning building? What rules must be observed to prevent fire? We will now look for answers to these and other questions.

Imagine the situation: you are walking down the dormitory corridor and near one of the slightly open doors you hear the sound of matches striking or a lighter and smell cigarette smoke. This irresponsible resident decided to smoke in the dormitory room. And you, of course, will tell him that smoking in rooms is prohibited, and this can cause a fire.

Living in a dormitory, you must know 5 important rules, by observing which you and your neighbors will be safe:

1) Do not smoke or use open flames in the dormitory building, do not allow your neighbors, relatives and friends to smoke.

2) Do not overload the electrical network, when leaving home and going to bed, turn off all electrical appliances (even from sockets), except for the refrigerator.

3) Be careful in the kitchen, about 30% of all fires
in dormitories occur due to food left on the stove.

4) In case of small fires, use primary fire extinguishing means.

Let's remember once again how to use a fire extinguisher:

remove the fire extinguisher and bring it to the source of the fire;

break the seal, pull out the pin;

direct the spray nozzle at the source of the fire;

press the lever.

IMPORTANT! The pressure indicator arrow must be in the green sector of the scale.

5) If you cannot cope with the fire on your own, do not risk or play the hero. Call rescuers at 112. Notify neighbors about the fire and immediately leave the dangerous area.
