Forest fire
Since the beginning of the year, 1 forest fire has been extinguished in the Vitebsk region, covering a total area of 0.3 hectares. Although this is not a large forest area, if measures to extinguish it are not taken in time, a small area can escalate into a major catastrophe. So, what should you do if the forest is on fire?
Immediately call the Ministry of Emergency Situations at 101 or 112.
Try to leave the fire area: walk against the wind or perpendicular to the fire line, along clearings, roads, glades, banks of streams and rivers. Remember that in dry weather and with wind, burning branches, leaves, and needles can be carried for tens of meters.
In case of heavy smoke, cover your mouth and nose with a wet cloth.
In case of crown fires, when tree crowns are burning, riverbanks and reservoirs, large glades of deciduous forests without coniferous undergrowth can serve as a refuge.
Do not seek refuge on roads and clearings surrounded by coniferous forest, especially young growth with low-hanging crowns, or in wooded ravines.
