Almost every crime is committed due to a careless attitude towards the safety of one's property by the victims themselves and a low level of security of storage places. Thieves love easy prey. Even the simplest precautions will help you keep your property safe: equip your home, garage, and outbuildings with reliable locking devices and security alarm systems.

One type of "easy prey" for thieves is theft from summer cottages. In the Postavy district in 2019, compared to the same period last year (2018), the total number of thefts committed from summer cottages decreased from 4 to 1 (or -3). This crime was committed from a citizen's summer house, used by him as a dacha, located in the Lintupy rural council. As can be seen, this year there has been a significant decrease in thefts from summer cottages. However, 3 months passed from the moment of the crime to the moment of discovery of the theft, which complicated the search for the perpetrator.

The object of the criminal encroachment was: tools, household items.

By method of commission, this theft was committed by breaking in through a window, taking advantage of the insufficient technical security of the household.

In 2019, a decrease in this type of crime (-3) is noted; in general, the operational situation related to thefts from summer houses in the district is stable and under the control of law enforcement agencies. No crimes of this type have been committed in gardening cooperatives. At the same time, the analysis indicates the detection of these crimes in the spring and summer periods, which suggests their commission in the winter and spring periods during the prolonged absence of owners in their summer cottages. Most crimes of the type under consideration were committed by breaking in, due to insufficient technical security of households.
We would like to recommend several simple but effective measures to summer house owners to keep their property safe:

- always lock your dacha, even when you leave it for a short time;
- take valuable items out of the summer house for the autumn-winter period;
- neighbors, help each other, report suspicious persons appearing in the area of summer cottage communities and gardening cooperatives to the police by phone 102, providing descriptions of the intruders and the vehicle they are using.
- equip your dacha with security alarm systems, video surveillance systems.
