Swimming and diving in unfamiliar, unequipped places
Many vacationers enjoy diving into the water from a height. It is mortally dangerous to jump into the water in unknown places. Here you can hit your head on the ground, break your cervical vertebrae, lose consciousness, and die. It is equally dangerous to jump headfirst into the water from rafts, piers, dams, and other structures. There may be piles, rails, stones, etc. underwater.
On the evening of June 8, in the Chizhovka reservoir in Minsk, a man dived from a parapet into a depth of 1.6-1.7 m and injured his spine. Rescuers tried to throw him a rescue line, but the victim could not use it, as the man's arms were not moving. After the ambulance arrived, the swimmer was urgently hospitalized. By the way, swimming is prohibited in the reservoir.
Water does not forgive mistakes, especially for those who are under the influence of alcohol. On the evening of June 16, near the village of Krytyshyn of the Ivanovo district of the Brest region, a 36-year-old man dived from a wooden bridge into the river - and drowned. Presumably, he hit his head on the bottom of the reservoir.
July 13 was fatal for a 21-year-old Gomel resident. A homemade trampoline made of sandbags was built in a place not intended for swimming on one of the lakes in the riverside area of Gomel. There, the young man was supposed to wait for his friends. When they arrived, they only found clothes on the shore. Later, divers found the deceased 10 meters from the shore at a depth of 2 meters. A submerged tree was in the water near the trampoline.
A similar tragedy occurred on July 19 in the Luninets district. A group of young people was relaxing at a quarry in the village of Bolshie Chuchevichi. This place is prohibited for swimming, as the banks of the reservoir are surrounded by thickets of reeds and sedges. A 30-year-old resident of Luninets decided to swim. He swam across the quarry, and when he was returning, he began to drown. His friends also could not help him. On the same day, EMERCOM employees recovered the body from the bottom of the reservoir.
July 19, a woman drowned in the Svetlogorsk district. The tragedy occurred in the village of Gamza in a fire reservoir. According to preliminary information, the woman came to visit acquaintances from the Dobrush district. While swimming in the fire reservoir, she began to drown. One of her acquaintances tried to help her, but without success.
