Employees of the Criminal Investigation Department remind: almost every crime is committed due to the careless attitude of the victims themselves to the safety of their property and the low level of security of its storage places. Thieves love easy prey. Even the simplest precautions will help you keep your property safe:
- do not leave front door keys in secluded places (under the mat, in the mailbox);
- do not leave your property (mobile phones, bicycles, bags) unattended, even if you think it's for a short period of time or among people you "know";
- equip your home, garage, and outbuildings with reliable locking devices and security alarms; when leaving your home, even for a "few minutes," lock the door; when at home and doing household chores, lock the front door from the inside;
- do not leave bicycles unattended near shops, in entrances, or in house yards. Equip your bicycle with a locking device;
- the presence of a coded door in the entrance does not guarantee the safety of your property;
- if people claiming to be employees of the social protection department, housing and communal services, a postal courier, or other persons whom you have not called try to enter your premises, demand to see their documents, then call the relevant organization and clarify whether such an employee works for them and where they should be at that time.
In many cases, intruders offer, including by visiting citizens at their place of residence, to purchase certain items or medicines at prices below market value, which in reality cost much less. Therefore:
- do not engage in conversation with persons who offer to remove a "curse" from you;
- do not buy electrical appliances and other goods from strangers;
- do not exchange banknotes for strangers;
- under no pretext transfer your money to strangers for their services in purchasing an apartment, car, building materials, fuel, food, and other items, performing any work, for the favorable resolution of an issue with officials regarding non-prosecution, passing exams, resolving housing issues, and so on;
- do not lend large sums of money without proper legal documentation and witnesses.
