From history:

Postavy branch of the Higher St. Petersburg Cavalry School.

In the late XIX - early XX centuries, a branch (field department) of the St. Petersburg Cavalry School was located in Postavy, on the lands of Count Pshezdetsky. According to some sources, the Postavy branch existed from 1899 to 1914.

For the needs of the school, the so-called "Nikolaevsky hunting castle" was built in Postavy, premises for officers, barracks for the lower ranks - orderlies for horse care, stables for two hundred horses, a menagerie for deer and foxes, a bear cage and a kennel. In addition, a race track, a show jumping arena and a tennis court were equipped.

At the Postavy branch of the school, classes on horsemanship were held. The training program included a course in parforce hunting, necessary for officers to improve their riding skills. During such a hunt for foxes or deer, the rider's ability to keep the horse in the direction in which the pack of dogs pursued the beast was developed. Here, the result was not important, but rather the rider's ability to restrain and direct the horse where the dogs rushed at frantic speed.

All the guard cavalry of the Russian army of the late XIX - early XX centuries (officers) went through the Postavy training camps. Candidates for positions of cavalry regiment commanders were also seconded to Postavy for parforce hunts.
The last Russian Tsar Nicholas II, as well as many other famous personalities, came here to Postavy for hunting.

The Postavy branch (field department) of the school ceased to exist, apparently in 1914, due to the outbreak of World War I. The school building, the so-called Nikolaevsky hunting castle, was destroyed during military operations.
