Mark yourself in the dark! The number of pedestrian accidents has increased

From September 27 to October 31, 2018, the State Automobile Inspectorate is holding a campaign to prevent road accidents involving pedestrians.

It is designed to once again remind about the need to observe safe behavior rules on the road. The State Automobile Inspectorate urges pedestrians and cyclists to make themselves more visible to drivers in the dark — to mark themselves with retroreflective elements.

A retroreflector (flasher) makes a pedestrian on a dark road visible in the headlights at a distance of up to 400 meters. This gives the driver additional time to make the most correct decision to avoid hitting a pedestrian road user.

Maximum vigilance is required from pedestrians and cyclists on the roads, especially now, due to weather changes. It gets dark earlier, and rather sharp temperature drops make the road surface slippery.
