On the dangers of smoking and beyond
As part of the republican campaign "Don't burn your life away!", employees of the Postavy District Department for Emergency Situations conduct preventive talks with individuals most susceptible to the influence of smoking – young people. Often, young people, when joining various groups, begin their smoking journey with the first "smoke break," when it seems that they cannot show weakness in front of friends and refuse a clearly harmful habit. Over time, mild addiction turns into nicotine dependence, and subsequently, not only irreparable harm is done to health, but also to life in general. It is not uncommon for an unextinguished cigarette to cause a fire, in a dwelling or in nature.
It is no secret that smoking while intoxicated is a frequent cause of death in fires. It is when a person is most relaxed and all senses are dulled that everything gets out of control, and the potential victim does not suspect the impending trouble in the form of poisoning by combustion products with subsequent death. To prevent such cases and more, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations across the country recommend installing autonomous fire detectors (AFD). In some cases, the owners themselves heard the sound of the AFD and were able to escape from the clutches of the fiery trap in time; in others, neighbors or passers-by hear it and are not indifferent to saving another's life. The path of all such stories begins differently, but the outcome is always the same – preventing human death!
Electronic cigarettes should also be included in the topic of smoking, as they, like any electrical appliance, require recharging. And a charger left unattended becomes a delayed igniter.
During the conversation, students of the "Postavy State College" were able to see the unfortunate nature of the harmful habit, watch a video of a fire developing from a cigarette, and, based on what they saw, draw conclusions for themselves and their loved ones. And visual aids will help reinforce in memory the potential harm from careless handling of fire when smoking.
