How expensive can a cigarette be?
It is said that each cigarette takes 5 minutes off one's life. However, there are instances when a single cigarette can take an entire life. It was with this issue in mind that employees of the Postavy District Department for Emergency Situations discussed smoking and its consequences with labor collectives as part of the "Don't Burn Your Life Away" campaign.
During a visit to the "Kamaysky-Agro" mechanized farm, an employee presented grim statistics on fires and the percentage of fatalities caused by careless handling of fire while smoking. He cited examples of common fire incidents caused by unextinguished cigarette butts and also mentioned that smoking in bed is unacceptable. Typically, people smoke in bed while intoxicated; taking another puff, the smoker doesn't even suspect it might be their last. The scenario for a fire then becomes commonplace: "Drank, lay down, lit up, fell asleep, burned."
The autonomous fire alarm also received attention. It remains on guard for safety in the home even when you are away or asleep. Its utility in a smoker's home increases, as the risk of fire in a smoker's home is 10 times higher.
During the event, everyone drew their own conclusions about smoking and its real harm, not only to health but also to life.
At the end of the event, everyone, even non-smokers, exchanged a cigarette for a candy, thereby taking a small but very significant step in the fight against this harmful habit.
