Food forgotten on the stove, and a fire in the house?

Why does food burn on the stove? Because a person is irresponsible or distracted. For example, they put a pot of soup on a hot burner and... fall asleep from fatigue or alcohol consumption, or rush out of the house for urgent matters. Meanwhile, the flames "jump" to curtains, towels, and a fire starts. Violation of the rules for operating gas appliances and units caused a fire in the Energetik horticultural society in July of this year.

How to protect yourself from a similar fire emergency scenario? Study the following rules and share them with your loved ones and friends:

- before cooking, tie your hair back with a clip, and make sure your clothing sleeves are not loose, wide, or long: flames can easily "catch" on them;

- never leave the kitchen while cooking and do not leave food cooking unattended;

- do not place paper and fabric towels, or decorative items made of flammable materials near the stove;

- do not leave wooden or plastic spoons and ladles in cookware on the stove;

- keep electrical cables as far away from the stove as possible;

- a frying pan requires special attention! Do not put wet products into a hot frying pan – the oil will splatter;

- never pour water on burning oil! The safe way is to cover the pan with a lid. If you pour water into oil, it will result in an "explosion" that will lead to burns and fire;

- if you have the opportunity, purchase a fire extinguisher for your house or apartment.

Remember! If there is a fire on your stove, immediately cover the cookware with a lid to restrict oxygen access. If the fire is large, run out of the kitchen, closing the door behind you, and if possible, the windows, and call rescuers at 101 or 112.
