Mobile application "MES of Belarus: Help is near"

Do you know how to act quickly and correctly in unusual situations, such as breaking a thermometer, being in a car accident, seeing a forest fire, a thunderstorm outside, a snake crawling into your house, etc.?

Rescuers studied the market of available mobile applications in the country and found that there were none that would allow quickly finding an answer on how to act in a particular situation. This led to the creation of the application for Belarusian users "MES of Belarus: Help Nearby", one of its most important tasks being to help people act effectively in an emergency situation.

Rescuers integrated an alert system for adverse and dangerous phenomena into the program. Application users receive timely notifications based on storm warnings from the Hydrometeorological Center. On the map, in addition to phenomena and regions where they are expected, rescuers' recommendations on how to behave in such circumstances are available.

Another important function is the "112" call button to the MES. People in critical situations forget emergency service phone numbers. A call can be made from various pages of the application or directly from the "What to do?" section.

The application also has a "First Aid" section, equipped with audio prompts for first aid actions. The section was created with the support of the Belarusian Red Cross Society. The first aid training program, which serves as the basis for the section, is accredited by the European First Aid Training Reference Centre of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). It complies with the International First Aid Training Guidelines (IFRC, 2016) and has received the European First Aid Certificate.

The latest version of the application includes search functionality, the ability to test acquired knowledge, and read articles in the "Encyclopedia" section. Users can participate in the MES rating for completing tests and send coordinates if they get lost in the forest.

The application will be useful to every smartphone or tablet owner, as each of us should be aware of adverse weather forecasts or have information at hand on how to act in any emergency situation.
