Measures to prevent and suppress illicit trafficking in weapons, ammunition, explosive devices and explosives

From February 16 to March 31, 2026, preventive measures are being carried out in the Postavy district aimed at identifying individuals who store weapons, ammunition, explosives, and explosive devices without proper documentation. Police officers will also check compliance with firearm storage rules for individuals who possess permits.

Annually, law enforcement agencies conduct these activities to counter the illegal trafficking of weapons and ammunition, as well as to prevent socially dangerous consequences and the commission of crimes.

In accordance with Article 24.46 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Belarus, illegal acquisition, transfer of possession, storage, transportation, shipment, or carrying of hunting smoothbore firearms or ammunition for them, or illegal acquisition, transfer of possession, transportation, shipment, or carrying of component parts or components of hunting smoothbore firearms, is punishable by a fine ranging from ten to thirty basic units with or without confiscation of the administrative offense item, or deprivation of the right to engage in certain activities with or without confiscation of the administrative offense item.

In addition to administrative liability for illegal trafficking of firearms, including hunting smoothbore firearms, ammunition, explosives and explosive devices, component parts or components of firearms, main parts of explosive devices, and cold weapons, criminal liability is also provided.

Thus, in accordance with Part 2 of Article 295 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, illegal manufacture, acquisition, transfer of possession, sale, storage, transportation, shipment, or carrying of firearms (excluding hunting smoothbore firearms), ammunition (excluding ammunition for hunting smoothbore firearms), explosives, explosive devices, or illegal manufacture, acquisition, transfer of possession, sale, transportation, shipment, or carrying of component parts or components of firearms (excluding component parts and components of hunting smoothbore firearms), or sale of main parts of explosive devices, is punishable by a fine, or correctional labor for a term of up to two years, or arrest, or restriction of liberty for a term of up to five years, or imprisonment for a term of up to seven years with or without a fine.

We remind you of the need to keep track of the timely renewal of your weapon permit. To prevent violations of the law, you should contact the district department of internal affairs one month before the expiration date of your permit with a written application for renewal, or an application for weapon disposal.

What to do if you miss the application deadline?

Citizens who have missed the deadline for submitting an application for permit renewal are obliged to voluntarily surrender it for temporary storage to the district department, and also to collect documents for weapon re-registration (medical certificate, payment receipt for 1 basic unit, and a valid hunting permit).

We remind you that the safety of your property primarily depends on your vigilance. Police officers recommend installing an alarm system connected to a central monitoring station to ensure the safety of your weapon.
