Thefts from dachas

Almost every crime is committed due to a careless attitude towards the safety of their property by the victims themselves and a low level of security of the places where it is stored. Thieves love easy prey. Even the simplest precautions will help you keep your property safe: equip your home, garage, and outbuildings with reliable locking devices and security alarm systems.

One type of "easy prey" for thieves is theft from summer cottages. In the Postavy district, in 2018, compared to 2017, there was an increase in the total number of thefts committed from summer cottages from 6 to 7 (or +1). Of these, the persons who committed the thefts were identified in 2 cases (2017 – in 3). The clear-up rate for this type of crime was 28.5% (2017 – 50% or -21.5%).

Based on the analysis by territorial division, no crimes of this type were registered in gardening cooperatives. All thefts were committed from citizens' homes used by them as summer cottages. The largest number of crimes from summer cottages was committed in Novoselkovsky rural council – 3 (Yelnyaki village, Sokoly village – 2) (2 solved), 1 crime was committed in Kuropolsky rural council, Kundry village (this crime was not solved), 1 crime was committed in Yun'kovsky rural council, Veselukha village (this crime was not solved), 1 crime was committed in Kamaysky rural council, Dvorchany village (this crime was not solved), 1 crime was committed in Voropaevsky rural council, Tiuntsy village (this crime was not solved). As can be seen from the territorial division of the committed crimes, no system is traceable; all crimes are scattered by place of commission and committed in rural councils distant from each other.

The objects of criminal encroachments were: household appliances, electrical equipment – 2 facts, non-ferrous metals – 2, clothing – 1, alcoholic products – 1, other items (tree seedlings) – 1.
By time of crime (months of detection):
March – 2;
April – 1;
June – 3;
July – 1;
By method of commission, only 1 fact was committed by free access in Sokoly village, 4 facts involved entry into summer cottages through doors, windows, transoms, taking advantage of insufficient technical security of the households, 2 facts by other means.

In 2018, there was an increase in this type of crime (+1); overall, the operational situation related to thefts from summer cottages in the district is stable and under the control of law enforcement agencies. No crimes of this type were allowed in gardening cooperatives. At the same time, the analysis indicates the detection of these crimes in the spring and summer periods, which suggests their commission in the winter and spring periods during the prolonged absence of owners from their summer cottages. Most crimes of the type under consideration were committed by intrusion, due to insufficient technical security of the households.

We would like to recommend several simple but effective measures to summer cottage owners to protect their property:
- always lock your summer cottage, even when you leave it for a short time;
- remove valuable items from your summer cottage for the autumn-winter period;
- neighbors, help each other, report suspicious persons appearing in the area of summer cottage communities and gardening cooperatives to the police by phone 102, providing descriptions of the offenders and the vehicles they are using.
- equip your summer cottage with security alarm systems and video surveillance systems.
