Complex of additional measures to withdraw unregistered weapons from circulation

In order to counteract the illicit trafficking of weapons, ammunition, explosive devices and explosives, as well as to improve the criminogenic situation related to their use in the Vitebsk region, from May 19, 2026 to May 31, 2026, a set of additional measures has been launched to withdraw unregistered weapons from circulation. Within this framework, citizens can apply to the Internal Affairs Department of the Postavy District Executive Committee for voluntary surrender of weapons and ammunition. It should be noted that citizens who voluntarily surrender weapons, ammunition, and explosives are exempt from criminal and administrative liability.
If you discover a weapon or ammunition, you must immediately report it to the police. 
The black market is saturated by illegal diggers who unearth entire arsenals from battlefields with metal detectors. 
Illegal manufacturing, acquisition, sale, storage, transportation, carrying of firearms (except for smoothbore hunting weapons), ammunition, explosives, explosive devices are punishable by imprisonment for up to seven years. A person who commits this act repeatedly or as part of a group of persons by prior conspiracy risks spending up to 12 years in a correctional facility. 
Illegal possession of smoothbore weapons entails administrative liability in the form of a fine ranging from 10 to 30 basic units with the possibility of deprivation of the right to engage in certain activities.
To prevent weapon thefts, the police recommend that weapon owners equip weapon storage areas with security alarms connected to the console of the Department of Protection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
