How to avoid becoming a victim of a thief on the beach. Useful tips from law enforcement
Theft of personal property is quite common in public recreation areas, and beaches are no exception. This problem becomes relevant with the onset of the swimming season.
A "beach thief" is indistinguishable from other vacationers at first glance; they are just another participant in the recreation and do not stand out. As a rule, they find their victim in advance, having spotted valuables and made sure of the owners' carelessness and inattention. It is best not to take money, jewelry, mobile phones, and other valuables to the beach. If this is unavoidable, then first and foremost, you need to be attentive and ensure that they are always in sight. Never put things behind your back, do not abuse alcoholic beverages, as a thief will surely take advantage of the moment. You should not fall asleep on the beach unless you are sure that someone will look after your belongings during that time. It is safest to relax with a company or family so that one of your companions is always near your valuables.
Those who like to profit from other people's property on the beach should remember that criminal liability is provided for this. Perpetrators are held accountable in accordance with Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus "Theft," and the maximum penalty can be imprisonment for a term of three to twelve years with confiscation of property.
In case of a crime committed against you or your loved ones, immediately report these facts to the Postavy District Department of Internal Affairs by phone: 102 or 4-10-02, 510-29-45 (MTS).
