The State Automobile Inspectorate conducts a set of measures to prevent road accidents involving pedestrians and cyclists

From April 18 to 30, a set of preventive measures aimed at preventing road accidents involving vulnerable road users is being held in the Postavy district.

In January-March, the region recorded an increase from 8 to 9 accidents caused by pedestrians, as well as an increase in the number of injured vulnerable road users from 3 to 6. In addition, an increase in the number (from 0 to 1) of accidents involving cyclists was recorded.

As part of these measures, State Automobile Inspectorate employees will focus on compliance with traffic rules by pedestrians, cyclists, animal-drawn vehicle drivers, and drivers when passing unregulated pedestrian crossings.

The State Automobile Inspectorate reminds:

1) before crossing the roadway, a pedestrian must ensure that entering the roadway is safe, and a driver approaching a pedestrian crossing must reduce speed and drive in such a way that, in case of pedestrians appearing, they can stop and give them priority in movement;

2) a pedestrian must move along the sidewalk or shoulder, and in their absence, along the edge of the roadway no more than one meter away. In this case, the pedestrian must move against the flow of vehicles;

3) in the dark, a pedestrian must identify themselves with a retroreflective element;

4) a bicycle must be equipped with white retroreflectors in front, red at the back, orange on the side, as well as a rearview mirror and a sound signal. In the dark, a cyclist must wear a high-visibility vest.

If you spot pedestrians or cyclists on the roadway whose behavior poses a threat to other road users, you must report this to the internal affairs bodies by calling 102.
