Belarus, Russia to share waste management practices

Moscow will host the permanent seminar on the development of the Union State of Belarus and Russia at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia on 27-28 October. It will look into the application of waste management laws in Belarus and Russia, BelTA learned from the press service of the Parliamentary Assembly.

The event will be attended by members of the commission on ecology, environmental management and response of the Parliamentary Assembly, representatives of ministries and departments of Belarus and Russia, R&D and educational institutions and also waste management companies.

"The meeting will discuss the joint activities of Belarus and Russia to create a purposeful and orderly system for regulating waste management through the integrated use of legal, regulatory and economic mechanisms," the press service said. “Plans are in place to analyze the waste management systems in Belarus and Russia, to consider the environmental safety of hazardous production facilities and the turnover of toxic waste, to develop proposals for the most effective, economical and environmentally friendly model of waste management in the Union State.”

During the seminar, its participants will visit a waste sorting plant of the Spetskommunavtotrans enterprise.

"A document containing practical recommendations will be drawn up following the meeting. It will be sent to the ministries and departments of the two states, other interested parties," the press service added.

The permanent seminar at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia on the development of the Union State was established on the initiative of the Union State Mps in 2006. Traditionally, it brings together representatives of scientific communities, supporters of the integration of Belarus and Russia. The format of the event allows considering topical issues of cooperation between Belarus and Russia within the framework of the Union State.
