Lighter experiment
On July 31, a 60-ton hayrick burned down in the Novogrudok district. The cause of the fire was children's mischief with fire. As a 12-year-old girl explained, while walking in the field with her friend, she found a lighter and, out of curiosity, set fire to the hay. She tried to extinguish the rapidly spreading fire with her jacket, but failed. The girls got scared and ran home.
The fire completely engulfed the sixty-ton hayrick, and there was a threat of further spread of the fire to a second hayrick located twenty-five meters away. The damage caused to the farm will most likely have to be compensated by the parents.
During the summer, the number of incidents involving children increases. Dear parents, ensure constant supervision of your children, explain to them the consequences of playing with fire, and teach them what to do in case of a fire. Also, tell them how to behave safely in the forest, in the field, and near water. And remember that parents' behavior is the best example to follow.
