Water safety

The Ministry of Emergency Situations reminds of the rules of conduct on water bodies:

¾     Swim in the morning or evening; the water temperature should not be lower than 17-19 degrees, as it is dangerous to be in colder water;

¾     It is forbidden to approach a body of water while intoxicated;

¾     It is dangerous to swim too far – you might miscalculate your strength and drown;

¾     Do not swim, and especially do not dive, in unfamiliar places;

¾     If you are caught in a current, you should swim downstream, gradually approaching the shore at a slight angle;

¾     If you get caught in a whirlpool, take a deep breath, submerge yourself, and with a strong push to the side, surface;

¾     In bodies of water with a lot of algae, swim close to the water's surface, avoiding contact with plants and making no sudden movements. If your arms or legs do get entangled, stop, assume a "float" position, and carefully free yourself from the plants;

¾     It is forbidden to swim on inflatable mattresses or car inner tubes;

¾     Do not dive under swimmers, grab their legs, "drown" them, or give false distress signals etc.;

¾     Do not swim far from the shore or race across a body of water;
