Safety at Railway Transport Facilities
The main cause of death and injury to people as a result of being hit by railway transport is the victim's failure to observe personal safety measures, their inattention, and disregard for the rules of being in high-risk areas.
Often, tragedies are caused by the victim using headphones, attempting to crawl under a stationary train, or riding on the external structures of wagons.
To avoid tragedies, the following basic safety rules should be followed:
1. Crossing railway tracks is permitted only at designated and equipped locations (railway pedestrian crossings, tunnels, bridges), after ensuring that there is no railway transport from any direction.
2. When crossing, carefully listen to announcements via loudspeaker, pay attention to signals given by locomotives or railway transport workers.
3. It is not allowed to leave children unattended and unsupervised, including during boarding and alighting from wagons, to hold accompanying children by the hand or in arms when transporting them without using a stroller.
3. It is not allowed to cross tracks when the red signal warns of an approaching train, or if a train is approaching a crossing not equipped with a semaphore within sight.
4. It is prohibited at pedestrian crossings:
to move on motor blocks, motorcycles, mopeds, bicycles, scooters, roller skates, skis, other sports equipment, as well as using personal mobility devices (except wheelchairs);
to use mobile phones, headphones (except hearing aids), tablets, video players, audio players, and the like.
5. To avoid the effect of the pulling air current created by a passing train, it is necessary to move at least 2 meters away from the outermost rail.
It should be known that in accordance with Article 18.2, Part 4 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Belarus, walking on railway tracks or being on railway tracks in places not intended for crossing them entails a fine of up to two basic units.
