An autonomous fire detector is your most reliable lifesaver
Statistics show that more than 50% of fatal fires occur precisely when a person is asleep. In sleep, one does not smell smoke and is therefore most vulnerable. Timely detection of a fire and thus prevention of fire, loss of life, and material damage can be achieved by installing an autonomous fire detector (AFD) in the apartment.
An autonomous fire detector is the most accessible means capable of protecting people and their homes from the terrible consequences of fire. The device reacts to smoke by emitting a powerful sound signal that can be heard not only by a sleeping person but also by their neighbors. It is extremely simple and unpretentious in operation: it is necessary to change batteries once a year and periodically clean the AFD from dust.
It is very important to correctly choose the installation location of the detector. The optimal point is in the central part of the ceiling with a slight offset towards the window or door, where air currents move. It is permissible to install: on the ceiling near the wall, but no closer than 10 cm from it, on the wall at a distance from the ceiling of 10 to 30 cm. It is not recommended to install closer than 50 cm from the corner. When triggered, the detector emits a loud signal capable of waking a deeply sleeping person and even drowning out the sound of operating household appliances (for example, a vacuum cleaner or washing machine). Many are interested in how to stop the sound if the detector was triggered not by fire. To do this, it is necessary to ventilate the room or vacuum the AFD for several seconds without removing it from the ceiling.
What causes false alarms? Often this happens because vapors of fats and other substances, entering the openings of the smoke chamber, settle on the walls of the plastic casing and, drying, turn into a dense coating. Another reason for alarms is the entry of smoke into the chamber from the stove, from the yard through an open door, or as a result of active smoking. But this indicates that your detector is working perfectly, and you only need to eliminate the source of smoke. And the last reason, which, however, is extremely rare, is a malfunction of the detector.
The necessity of installing detectors in every home is undeniable. But it is a pity that a device has not yet been invented that can relieve people of an indifferent attitude towards their own safety.
Remember: the key to your well-being is compliance with fire safety rules. Take care of yourself and your loved ones! In case of fire, call 101 or 112!
