Autonomous fire alarm – effective and reliable protection for your home!
Why is an autonomous fire detector needed in every home? To get an answer to this question, consider: would you like to know in time about a fire starting in your apartment or house? And is there a chance to detect a fire in the house at night, when a person is sleeping and does not smell smoke? It would seem that the answer is obvious. And it's not for nothing that people have said for ages: "A thief will pass - he will leave the walls, fire will pass - it will take everything and leave ashes."
But, at the same time, most people are confident that a fire can happen anywhere, but not with them, many say that we do not drink or smoke, so we do not need a fire detector. But fires happen not only for this reason. Short circuit of electrical wiring, a stove not repaired in time, a forgotten iron or food cooking on an unattended stove, children's pranks with fire - this is far from a complete list of causes of fires that constantly appear in the reports of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Practice shows that in households equipped with autonomous fire detectors, the level of safety of people living in them increases many times over. In 2021 alone, in Vitebsk region, thanks to API activations, 26 people were saved, including 3 children. This year, the detector saved 4 lives in Vitebsk region.
On November 28 at 23:05, a man came to emergency rescue post No. 12 of the Ushachi District Department for Emergency Situations and said that his neighbor's apartment on Yuzhnaya Street in the agro-town of Glybochka had an autonomous fire detector beeping, and smoke was already coming from the window. Rescuers immediately went to the specified address, smoke was coming from the window of the apartment in the blocked single-story house. A neighbor was standing near the house, and she showed the rescuers the window to the room where the pensioner owner usually was. Ministry of Emergency Situations employees put on their breathing apparatus and entered the house through the window. The room was full of smoke, almost immediately to the right of the window, they saw a man lying on the floor, he was conscious, but they could not understand his speech. Also, through the window opening, firefighters pulled the man out of the room. Before the arrival of medics, we provided him with all possible medical assistance. After some time, an ambulance arrived at the scene, the man, born in 1959, with burns and poisoning from combustion products, was hospitalized. By the way, in the burning apartment, the bed and property were damaged by fire. The cause of the fire was carelessness when smoking.
An autonomous fire detector (AFD) is designed to automatically detect a fire (smoke) and alert about it. The device can alert about a fire independently or jointly as part of an autonomous fire alarm system. An AFD is called autonomous because its design is made in such a way that it does not require connection to an electrical circuit and connection to a control panel for operation. Inside the plastic case there is a power source - a "Krona" type battery and components necessary for fire detection and direct notification of it. AFDs should be installed in all living rooms (except the kitchen) of households.
It is very important to choose the installation location of the detector correctly. It is recommended to install the AFD in the central part of the ceiling with a slight offset towards the window or door - where constant air exchange is ensured.
The installation of the detector itself does not require special knowledge and skills. It comes with detailed instructions containing all the necessary information about installation, device, and operating rules. The device does not spoil the interior at all, its mounting plate is fixed to the ceiling with screws, and then the autonomous fire detector itself is installed (by turning clockwise until it stops). To dismantle, simply turn the device counterclockwise.
A flashing red LED signal on the AFD body indicates its serviceability and operation in standby mode. When smoke is detected, the AFD emits an intermittent sound signal with a constant red LED light. To stop the sound signal of the detector, you need to eliminate the source of smoke and ventilate the room.
During operation of the AFD, it is necessary to carry out its technical maintenance, which consists of cleaning the optical system of the detector using a hairdryer in cold mode at maximum power. Without disassembling the detector, direct the air stream to the protective mesh of the optical element. The cleaning frequency is at least once a year and with each false alarm. It is also necessary to regularly change the power element. The detector will notify you that it is time to do this by continuously emitting a short sound signal.
To protect yourself and your loved ones from fires, take fire safety measures for your homes in advance. And remember that one of the effective measures is the installation of autonomous fire detectors!
