On February 9, the State Automobile Inspectorate is holding a preventive event under the motto: “Reflector – a reliable friend!”

In 2021, 135 road accidents involving pedestrians were registered in the Vitebsk region, in which 30 people died and 112 were injured.

To prevent such incidents, the Postavy State Automobile Inspectorate will hold a series of preventive measures on February 9 under the motto: "Reflector – a reliable friend!". The purpose of the event is to promote the wearing of retroreflective elements and prevent road accidents involving pedestrians in the dark.

During the campaign, State Automobile Inspectorate employees will visit educational institutions, where they will conduct educational activities with schoolchildren, and in a playful way remind children about observing traffic rules. In addition, promotional events will be organized with pedestrians to promote the use of retroreflective elements and high-visibility vests in the evening and at night.

The State Automobile Inspectorate reminds that reflectors allow pedestrians to "glow" in low beam headlights at a distance of 130-140 m, and when driving with high beam, the distance increases to 400 m. This gives the driver additional time to make the most correct decision to avoid a collision.

It is important that the reflectors are properly secured. They should be clearly visible to drivers, not hidden behind a bag, umbrella, or clothing folds. The optimal option is to use armbands and bracelets attached to the pedestrian's arms and legs on the side facing the roadway.

In turn, drivers should exercise increased caution when crossing pedestrian crossings and driving on roads near settlements.
