January 27 — Unified Road Safety Day

In 2022, 390 road accidents were registered in the Vitebsk region, in which 65 people died and 402 people were injured.

The main cause of tragedies and misfortunes on the road remains the human factor. Road users deliberately violate rules, for which they pay with their health. Often, carelessness on the road has a much higher price – a human life!

It is unlikely that a driver who gets behind the wheel drunk or exceeds the speed limit thinks that they might end up in a traffic police report. And the number of accidental road users who suffer through no fault of their own is countless. The causes of all road troubles and accidents lie in ignoring traffic rules.

Dear motorists! Do not forget about increased safety measures in the cold season, choose a safe speed considering the condition of the roadway, increase the distance and lateral interval, avoid any sudden movements and maneuvers. Remember that children under 12 years old must be transported using child restraint systems, and all passengers must fasten their seat belts. And be very careful when crossing pedestrian crossings.

Dear pedestrians! Do not ignore the simple rule: cross the roadway only in designated areas, make sure that drivers see you and have stopped. It is also important to remember that a vehicle on a cold, wet surface sometimes does not have the technical ability to stop within a short distance. When crossing the road, always monitor the road situation and ensure the safety of your actions. In the dark, when moving through unlit areas, always identify yourself with retroreflective elements.

Many years of practice show that mutual respect, discipline of all road users, and tolerance towards each other are the key to road safety, which does not forgive mistakes!
